ABOUT ME

Why I chose this topic

While I definitely identify as a capable writer, I've generally only written extensively for academic purposes. It's for this reason that the writing minor has been so meaningful to me, as it gives me a chance to explore topics that interest me and provides more flexibility in how to approach them.

For my gateway project, I examined the polarization of the American media: the policies and developments that led to it as well as the visible effect that it has on our public discourse. Because of the gravity and complexity of my prior topic, I decided to pursue something a little bit lighter this time around: sports.

I've been a lifelong fan of football (both college and pro), and in the past few years, my interest in world football (especially in Europe) has been piqued. I spent last spring in Barcelona, a hotbed for top-notch soccer, and was able to attend games there, in England, and in Italy. I found a growing appreciation for the game itself, but also began to observe the different way that European society interacted with the sport. I've since kept up with my favorite teams from overseas, and found a unique opportunity through the capstone project to compare this game with the one that I grew up playing and watching.

More about me

I'm a soon-to-be Michigan grad in International Studies and also have a minor in History. Topics that have social and political significance have always interested me, so it's no coincidence that my two main project topics have been sports and the media.

I've done some work for the Michigan Daily's opinion section and some research for Michigan Law's Program in Refugee and Asylum Law. These experiences have given me a chance to dive into fields that interest me outside of my coursework, although I probably won't have the chance to work professionally in them.

I'm a casual pen-and-pencil sketch artist, a currently mediocre (but aspiring) music producer, and have gotten pretty into bowling lately. Beyond that, I'm looking forward to a post-grad life that hopefully has some adventures in store for me.
